Why Urban Ecology
As increasingly difficult as it is to find old forests and untouched wilderness, it's becoming easier and easier to find cities and other human settlements. And we are not living here alone. An enormous array of wildlife lives alongside us ranging from hawks and foxes to beetles and bacteria. More than half of humanity lives in cities and increasingly urban wildlife is the connection to nature that we are familiar with and directly influenced by. If we are going to share our cities so widely, it is in our best interest to understand what species live around us, how these other species make their living here, and how they will adapt to the new world we are creating.
